PULLEN - - - Managing-Editor DAILY EDITION Thursday, April 30, 1931 SUMMER SPORTS SOON It is vfery satisfactory to the local fans to know that there is a prospect of some good baseball in the city during the coming summer. This game is the most popular local sport and if the games are closely contested a gate can be depended -- - on. Football seems more in doubt but with the Regiment club meeting this week it is possible that some other clubs may follow suit and make an effort to putian eleven in the field. ZJr Cricket and lacrosse never had much chance here owing to lack of suitable grounds. Tennis promises to be as popular as ever. The young ueoDie oi the city. btjy6 and girls, have taken to this game j better than any other and the result is that there are a! number ot yoaiig players coming aiong well. The rebuild-! ing of two local courts, one at Acropolis Hill bv the Prince Rupert Tennis Club and the other at the High School, built by the students and teaching staff with the aid of some friends and slight help from the school board, will have a good effect in keeping up interest in the game. Swimming should engage the attention of all young people. As a sport it is unexcelled and it is a great thing for the young people to learn to swim as a measure of protection to themselves and friends.- Softball is already engaging attention in various parts of the uty and there is a new bowling green built by the Canadian National Recreation Association which 'may be used later. Qn the" whole, Prince Rupert young people are fairly weH.providedwith-ummeriK)rts-ana all that is needed is good weather during the season. , 1V T. PEACE RIVER CROPS Already this year the Peace River district has shipped to market Oracticallv ten million htishpls nf r-rain. annrn.i ximately the same amount as was sent out the previous year. This was in a season when crops almost throughout the prairie country were a failure. A country that produces like that cannot well be ignored in the matter of transportation. The western outlet is sure to come soon and Prince Rupert will benefit from it no matter which route it takes. i B a?F'. k'4 ! 1 aTi s1smB WFi W T InSii y t jPBSBSVfJH SmL YTi SMSWSBL SfcWMl M PmJLL'rlJ I'M-M -1 1 1 i i I HtbTsi a m t I'H I Sw Mi I UAjiw Batteries Iff T Ti Agents f ji the Tbes lTiliai fflf.KaP UlJd, BrOS Electro-Chromatic famous Audak Reesonators LIMITED Pick-up ft 4 W OOD ALCOHOL KILLED TWO HUNDRED DIKING WINTER IN STATES ft WASHINGTON, April 30: The use of wood alcohol as a beserane caused no less than f,200 deaths fli the UtiUeUstates ! during the past winter.
