MAY BAN PYJAMAS Growing Feeling Against Them De velops in Winnipeg WINNIPEG, Man., Aug. 8--The Woman's Page editor of The Winnipeg Free Press writes: "With certain cities In the States rousing themselves against the pandemic of pyjamas which hai swept, not only beach and boulevard, but which has marked as its own hostesses and guests at every sort of function, there la a growing opinion In Winnipeg in favor of banning pyjama parades on the public streets. "So far, the only thing which has prevented a deputation waiting upon the city council to dis cuss the feasibility of a law against pyjamas on Portage is the fact that women's organizations cease functioning during the holiday season, and there Is little chance of discussing concerted action un til activities resume in the cla-u rooms 'when school opens in Sep tember, there- will be a definite move on the part of women's organizations to prevent it, however, executive members said. "Several women Interviewed it pressed themselves in strong terms against the new vogue, declaring It was 'perfectly scandalous' to see girls clad In such garb on city streets. Some felt the time had rome to take official action as th style of pyjamas adopted verged in some cases, on the Indecent, but others thought the only move was to arouse public opinion agains' the bad taste exhibited and so pre vail upon parents to keep their girls from wearing them. There a general feeling that the youngei generation are the chief offend ers, as- older girls and women limit their wearing of pyjamas to the beaches or their homes. Many wo men see in this phase of the py jama erase the main reason for taking action, as they regard the extreme styles favored by the youngsters a menace to their mor als. "When pyjamas for outdoor wear aside from beach costumes, were first Ihown Jthejr were merely drew adaptation with a skirt for each leg. and as such were all right, if one vared for that sort of thing." one woman said In discussing the matter recently. "But th more extravagant the style the more popular pyjamas have become wlUi the younger girls, until today some youngsters are a disgrace." Shop managers confirmed this, statement to the extent of admitting that they were doing .i flourishing business In the more bizarre types. Big patterns, low cut necks, fitted hips, are the popular types. Some managers de dared that no one fad had ever been taken up so universally as this one tor summer pyjamas, ann that the most daring styles were the mc&t popular.
