Skeena After This District Is Formally Recognized Big Gathering Lieut.-Governor and Commander Brodeur Are Principal Speakers Two beautiful silver candelebra of antique design were presented at the Capitol Theatre last night by Hon. J. W. Fordham-Johnson, Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, to Capt. Victor O. Brodeur jof H.M.C.S. Skeena as the gift of the people of Skeena district to the namesake warship. An audience which filled the theatre to capacity witnessed the very Interesting As the Lieut-Governor moved down the aisle of the theatre toward the stage the audience rose and sang the National Anthem. In opening the proceedings, Mayor Cyril H. Orme, who presided, ex pressed appreciation to Lieut. Col. S. P. McMordie, DJS.O., manager of the Capitol Theatre, for having made the theatre available for the ceremony. The mayor then called upon the Lieutenant-Governor. Mr. Fordham-Johnson referred to the fine body of men which formed the personnel of H.M.CJS. Skeena. All were Canadians Including the commander. Commander Brodeur, who was the son of a former federal cabinet minister who had played a prpmlnent part In the establishment of the nucleus of the Canadian Navy. The fact that the ship was named after Skeena was a distinct recognition, of this district, which the rpeaker felt was destined eventually to play a prominent part in the business and affairs of the country. The fact that the ship was so named would serve to draw atten tion to the district. The Lieutenant-Oovernor then formally made the presentation to Commander Brodeur. Commander Brodeur Commander Brodeur made a neat speech in reply. The g"ft would be a treasured one and would find a prominent place in the messroom of the ship, he promised.
