IV i M I MAT IVM I -f - "TIME THE TOILER" F- jn mTsTS havs i t'M auto I a. t . -TO rwr rv- Mrs. T. M. Spencer Will Not Seek Re-Election to Board of School Trustees Mrs. T. M. Spencer, member of the board of school trustees foi four years and for the last twe years chairman intimated at las' night's board meeting that she would hot seek re-election to the board following expiry of her term next month. In making the Intimation to this effect, Mrs. Spencer voiced appreciation to the principals present at the meeting for the co-operation! they had accorded her during her service on the board. She hoped and believed that the work would be carried on in the future as smoothly cud harmoniously as it had been during her four years on the board. In a brief reply. D. H. Hartness, principal of King Edward High School, expressed' appreciation on behalf of himself and the other principals for the splendid manner n which Mrs. Spencer had carried out her office. Her attitude had al ways been sympathetic and helpful md her decision to retire from the board was much regretted. CONDITION OF PUPILS IN SCHOOL 'Continued from page one) least, of the numerous cases of un dernourishment. The presence of decayed teeth Is a real menace to a hild s health, and It would seem to ne that some step should be taken by the school board to impress up-! -n the parents the need for proper Cental hygiene. "Next to teeth you wil lnotice hat defective tonsils are the chief offenders, and perhaps a word of explanation would be advisable here. It Is obviously impossible for school doctor to find out to what wtent a child's health has been ' nf ferine, from disturbances which -nftht be traced to tonsils, without1 talking to the parents. For this reason any tonsils which looked at all suspicious have been reported, 'n the hope thjit (fee parents would take the question up with their family physician and ascertain If the tonsils are at fault. "The High School pupils are, on the whole, very healthy. The sudden 1rop In the Incidence of defective reth and tonsils means that thej periodic health examinations of the -ast have produced results. "In closing I should like to make j two recommendations. First, I have found that a great many of the children show evidence of poor lung ; expansion, and I believe that' breathing exercises practised daily 'n the class rooms In both Public I ind Hish Schools would produce beneficial results. Secondly, In the "ourse of the examinations two active cases of chicken pox were discovered attending school, also sev eral cases of fcables or Itch, and' offie of acute bronchitis running a temperature. It is obviously Impossible to expect the teachers to detect these ensvs but It Is lust at obviously eslrable that our children rhould not be exnosel to these various infections unnecessarily. To that end. T would urge the appoint-went of a full-time school nuree, lust as rocn as the funds are available. This would susoly a check of Infectious diseases breaking out In the whools. and the nurse could also follow ud the recommendations tent to the parents each year and sec that they are acted upon.'
