For the past month basketball enthusiasts have been treated to some very .closely contested and thrilling game but the senior game which brought C.K.R. and Panthers together last night,, climaxed an everting and a month of lnterestinj ;; play. At first it just looked like "an- j' other" basketball game with the C. ! N. R. probable winners. Their deadly combination started to grind from the start. However, they found . that the Panthers had added another claw to their attack in the form of Alex Mitchell who paired up with Allan Cross to form an al-1 most perfect defence. These two1 men worried opposing forwards all the time and they were on every re-1 .'bound and Intercepted numerous, ''passes. Even then. Styles helped himself to 17 points, and rebounds v'are his "meat." Ten minutes from! f the start the Trainmen had tallied '12 points, but the Panthers came to fjlfe and scored two points, only to weaken before another C. N. onslaught which netted them seven more points. This left the half-time score at 23-12, giving the Trainmen a Very comfortable lead. The pace quickened: the Panthers opened up their play; the forwards, Macdonald and Kelsey, played a close man-to-man offensive; both teams worked a pretty combination and, finally, the Panthers opened up by scoring quickly. With jjhree minutes to go, Kelsey scored, giving, the Panthers the lead. By this time the crowd was In a frenzy and, with half a minute to go. Cross sank a foul shot and tied the score. Had Mitchell sunk one of a series of four fouls which were awarded as the whistle blew, everything Would have been "hotsy-totsy" for the Panthers. But he didn't and thereby hangs a story which five Fast Action in Basketball This fast bit of action took pla when aspirants for positions on the varsity basketball team at New York university turned out enmasse for the first practice of the season, staged aboard the U.SJS. training ship. Illinois. It was rougher, though quite fast. However, as the pace quickened the play Improved with Sue Boddle working her head off for her team. Enyd Morris, though, was probably the outstanding player of both teams. As the season progresses she improves continually and has all the makings of a first-rater. Prlt-chard was bottled up by the Car dinal defense and failed to Indulge In her usual scoring spree, so Morris stepped in and helped herself to reven of her team's nine points. For Cardinals Gilchrist showed up well and played very nicely with her more experienced and cagey captain. Lillian Lowe.
