PULLEN - - - Managing-Editor OAtLY EDITION LITTLE THINGS COtlNT Monday, Sept. 14, 1931 The people of Queen Charlotte Islands seem to fiave a real grievance in the shutting out of one of their industries through the high saltery license fee of 1,500. While this amount was reduced to $500 at the last minute, it was done too late to save the situation. Anyway, even the 500 fee was tdo high for a small business extending for only a brief period. It is to be hoped that the government will consider carefully before setting the license fee next year. Mr. Galloway was accompanied on his trip Into the Nation River country by Douglas Lay, resident mining engineer for the northeastern mineral survey idUtrict, with headquarters in A. B. Moffat and son Harold are back In Prince George after spending a month in the Rainbow Creek Placer country. Mr. Moffat was staked on the creek by the discoverers and spent the greater part of his stay In prospecting his ground. He did a little washing and recovered about an ounce and a half of gold. As Tor prospects of Rainbow Creek, Mr. Motfatt declares that he Is confident that Mr. 8nell and associates will make good, although a long bow has been drawn generally as to the field's possibilities. Some promising discoveries have been made but wages have not as yet been definitely assured. Mr. Snell ls,of the opinion that there Is sufficient gold in the creek to pay for handling by machinery but possibly not for hand mining. He prefers. however, to determine the quantity of pay dirt before accepting offers (or machine operation. This Is the work he has now in hand and he is very confident of ultimate suc cess. Platinum and lrrldlum values may also be an important factor In the working of the creek. Mr. Mof- fatt also confirmed reports of activ ity In the Nation River district where William OglMe Is carrying on drilling operations In Slate Creek for the Consolidated Mining It Smelting Co., while R. C. MeCorkell and associates have a large crew on Germanson Creek. Speaking generally there is much more going on In these districts this year than for years past.
