Defeating the Cubs by a score of 6 to 2 here yesterday, the St. Louis Cardinals broke their tie with Chicago for first place in the National League. The New York Giants moved into second place by virtue of another victory over the Boston Braves. Cleveland Indians lost their game In the American League but are still leading as Washington Senators and New York Yankees also lost games. It was a big day for the second division occupants and the results tended to tighten up the race all around.
