N. Penrose of Cornwall, England, gifted water divines, who has gone Into that district. Engaged by the department of agriculture of the province of British Columbia, Miss Penrose will spend some time in the Peace River district locating water wells. The time she will spend there will, of course, depend on the call from farmers In the dry areas. J. B. Munro, deputy minister of ' agriculture for the coast province, is also making a trip to the Peace i River region within the boundaries j of Britl&h Columbia to make a sur vey of conditions. Gift Long In Family Interviewed here. Miss Penrose said that the gift of locating water wells had been in her family in the old country for generations. Her father was an expert at this work, while during the war periods Miss Penrose herself located water wells In various parts of England. She makes use of a willow and wire rod in establishing the location of wells. Last year, Miss Penrose did some satisfactory work In the Okanagan rfUtrict' of the coast province and has Just finished further work of the same nature in that district. On completing her program for the Peace River region she will return to the Cariboo district. Gives Location I Miss Penrose states that she merely gives the farmer a location for the well, that being the extent of (he nulctanrik nrnvirfArl hv 4 Via coast government. The costs of drilling must be borne by the owner or occupier of the land. In the Peace district, there hat been a serious shortage of domestic or drinking water In some sections. That need has been so severe that the services of Miss Penrose have been obtained. CONVENTION DATE CHANGED Associated Boards to Meet at Burns Lake August 5 and 6 The secretary of the Chamber of Commerce has received word that the date of the convention of the Associated Boards of Trade at Burns Lake has been changed to August 5 and 6. Prudhomme Son of Local Citizen Is Travelling WUh Grain Board and Left Here Today A very interesting an Instructive address was given last evening by Stephen Prudhomme, National Vice-President for Ontario for the Amalgamated Civil Servants, on the alms of that association, and should result in swelling the ranks of that body from the Dominion Civil Servants of this cjlstrlct. Mr. Prudhomme went Into some detail regarding the workings of the Civil Service Act and the Civil Service Superannuation Act, and also gave some idea of the work done by the association officers and the results obtained from the government through the thorough study of contentious questions and placing same before the proper authority in such a way that no denial as to facts can be given. Through the courtesy of the local Trades St Labor Council the address was given in the Carpenter's Hall, and was presided over by W. M. Brown.
