It is curious that after Italy had heen saved from communism by the tascist revolution, under a former socialist leader, that country should be one of the first to hold out the hand of friendship and . extend trade privileges. . Only two years af- l ltr t; i 11 , i . ier iuussunni iook control oi me couniry as an aosoiute ruler he recognized the Soviet Union. Today the two countries have a trade agreement which is resulting in huge quantities of Russian goods being sold in Italy and is providing Italy with a market for instruments of production which Russia needs under her five-year plan and also pro vides work for .Italy's shipbuilders. There is a great similarity between the governments of Italy and Russia. In Russia the country is ruled by the communistic group with Stalin at its head. The party is a small section of the population of the country yet it holds supreme control. Iu Italy the country is 'ruled by the Fas-cisti with Mussolini practically an autocrat. There is no democracy in either country today. The average man has little say as to how or by whom the country shall be governed. The lesson that Canada may learn from the action of Italy in making a trade agreement with Russia is that here is a nation that can take our manufacturedlioods and with whom we might trade advantageously. If "Italy can make money by cloe association, we might do the same. The country cannot afford to turn any good customer away no matter what its religious or economic beliefs. Russia is our neighbor, connected with us by the Pacific Ocean and! Prince Rupert should be particularly keen in trying to i keep on good terms with her. i Canadian Shredded Wheat it 100 Canadian grain.
