Virtual Wilderness , , The wilderness of the Bulkley iiijr (Valley district In the - interior of Inland from Prince Rupert on the Grand Trunk Pacific Line of the Canadian National Railways, was described recently in an Illustrated lecture by L. S. McOill, secretary 'and manager of the British Colum bia Chamber of Mines. Omineca I branch, Smjthers. B.C.. delivered jat trie weekly luncheon of the Kl-jwante Club, in the Windsor Hotel, I says the Montreal Gazette. In the '.whole of the district, about the I same- size as England, there were barely 4,000 people, who lived under pioneer conditions like those in the Bast 100 yean ago. Mr. McOill said. The area waa being opened up rapidly, he continued. Premier Tol-mie of British Columbia, who re- jcently completed a tour .of the district, looked for great developments there in the near future, the speaker said, and it is expected that if the proposed highway through central British Columbia to Alaska is built, the opening up of the country will be considerably expedited. There, was much undeveloped wealth in the district, Mr. McGfll claimed which only needed outside . capital to be successfully exploited. Numerous slides were shown by the speaker,, revealing the wild beauty of the Bulkley Valley, known as "The Land of the Golden Twilight," a land of rolling hills and great valleys, qf lakes and rivers, abounding In game .and one of the' most beautiful spots in the world, the speaker said. Mr. McGill's Montreal address is (also reported in French in- the newspaper La Presse. FIRST RIDE IN SLEIGH Mrs. Pat Partria'ce, Formerly Miss May Thompson, Gets Great Thrill Out of It. Mrs. Pat Patridge, better known here by her roatden name of May Thompson, had her first cutter ride recently at Milton Junction, Wisconsin, where "she nqgir reside. The former popular local basketball player and member of the O iris' Drill Team evidently was thrilled. Here is what the Milton paper has to say about it: Pat Partridge took his wife for a cutter ride last Sunday. They had dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Green and continued their ride in the afternoon. Mrs. Partridge (May Thompson) is a native of Canada. .Her home was only fifty miles from the Alaskan border but snow Is sort of a novelty there. She is accustomed to rain and fog in winter. When snow did fall there, everyone (old and young) would take some kind of a sled and go sliding. But this was Mrs. Partridge's, first cutter ride and she enjoyed it immensely. Cutter and sleigh rides are becoming so scarce Jn this section ot Wisconsin that no doubt many of us would consider a treat. Especially with bells. Oh! For the good old days! 1 Twenty Years Ago In Prince Rupert March 3, 1931 After an address by Duncan Ross, Liberals of Victoria recently passed a resolution expressing themselves as being unanlmonly in favor of reciprocity with the United Stales. Reciprocity would tend to greatly reduce the cvost of living, it is felt. The formal opening of the new Prince Rupert Oftieral Hospital took place very Informally. Miss Kate McTavish, ,ihe, matron, and members of the nursing staff conducted many visitors through the building. The steamer Skbgttadt, Capt. Rhynlng, has arrived in port from Sydney, NU." with 4700 tons ol steel rails to be used in the construction of the a rand Trunk Pacific Railway.
