Daily edition LECTURE ON THE ORIENT The lecture to be delivered tonight by Robert Cromie of Vancouver promises to be an outstanding event. Mr, Cromie, who is editor and proprietor of one of Vancouver's leading newspapers, recently made a tour around the world and spent some time in the Orient. He tells of what he saw and heard while there and he has a way of telling it that proves extremely interesting. We commend this event to those who can get away to- - 1 A. PLENTY OF MONEY AVAILABLE There is plenty of money in the world available for vestment if only those who possess it can be shown that they will receive interest on the investment and be assured of being able to get back the principal when they need it. That is why they buy government bonds. Both in Canada and United States there js a scramble for these securities when they are offered with the result that more and more people every year become interested in carrying on ' the government of the country. Where the selling of government securities will end no one can say. There seems to be no thought of ever repaying the debts incurred, but sjmply of. continuing to pay the interest on the loan. "H. tav WILL APPRECIATE VISIT If Colonel Lindbergh and his wife decide to make a stop off at Prince Rupert on their flight to the Orient, they will receive a hearty welcome from the people here. They have been so much in the' public eye that everyone seems to know them. Try as they will they cannot escape from the eye of the world. , If the aviators come to Prince Rupert they will turn the eyes of the world in this direction and .the name of Prince Rupert will be telegraphed to all the leading centres. The Canadian people like a man who does things. Lindbergh made a lone flight across the Atlantic, thus winning for himself affluence and fame and possibly the greatest prize was his beautiful wife. We sincerely hope he will come to this city . MINISTER IS COMING The Prince Rupert Chamber of Commerce decided last night to defer until after a visit to be paid here In the near future by the minister of public works, Hon. R. W.,Bruhn, action In connection with a proposal by V. B. Moore to have a petition circulated In the city and district calling upon the povlnelal government to expedite as soon as possible the constuctloh of the highway connecting Prince Rupert with Terrace and the rest of the central Interior. Mr. Moore gave three principal reasons why the work should be proceeded with without delay. Ftrst, It would connect Prince Rupert and the Inter-lor; second, tt would provide needed employment, and third, It would open up and develop the resources of the north. President B. 3. Mellish thought ho action should be taken until after the minister had been here. S. E. Parker thought It was a matter that might fittingly be taken Up with the Associated Boards ot Central British Columbia. A letter from Mr. Bruhn announ Saturday, June 6, 1931 i ced that he expected to be here shortly when he would be pleased to confer to regard to the agitation for lower charges, on automobiles on the railway between Prince Rupert and Ha2ellon and other matters. It hat -been suggested that the government might absorb some of the cost of transporting automobiles between Prince Rupert and Hazel-ton.
