T. Kenney, the retiring president. The chairman, in his address, expressed appreciation of the excel lent work done by the officers and committees during the year and said it was gratifying that so much had been accomplished. The financial report showed a balance on the wrong side and it was ararnged to hold a Burns' night dance with a view to recovering the financial balance. Operations on the Southeaster contiriue to be attended with very gratifying results. Pine gold bearing ore is being opened up and high hopes are held that the property will become a producer of some magnitude. Repairs to the compressor and diesel engine on the property will soon be completed and Mr. McMor ris expects to soon be able to take on a few more men to start a 400-foot drift. PACIFIC MILK Factory nt DIES AT MASSETT William Smith, Who Succumbed to Cerebral Hcmniorhagc, Was Ilijlilj Esteemed in Inlet Stricken with cerebral hemmor-hage last Wednesday morning, William Smith, watchman of the Mas-sett Canners' cannery at Old Mas-sett and one of the, most popular citizens of Massett Inlet, passed away .suddenly the next evening at about '6 o'clock. Deceased had been watchman, at the cannery for the last three and a half years. About fifty years of age, the late Mr. Smith was born in the Shetland Islands but, while he was a child, he moved with his family to Australia. Hp served in the Great War after which he came to Canada. Outside of the fact that relatives reside in Australia, nothing is known about deceased's family. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon and was very im pressive. Deceased was held hi jucr high esteem by the people of both Old and New Massett that all placer of business in both settlement? were closed for the afternoon. The church at Old Massett was filled t overflowing for the service. A 20-piece native band led the funera procession, and returned men roir Massett were pallbearers. ' Rev James Glllett, assisted by Rev. Mr Graham, conducted the service.
