Fishery Patrol Major Motherwell, chief supervisor of fisheries, is making plans for comprehensive inspection activities during the coming season. Tenders were called for 25 gas-boats for patrol work in No. 2 district, Northern Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlottes. Last year, in all districts, the department utilized 95 patrol boats. It is likely, said Major Motherwell, owing to cutting of the deparment estimates at Ottawa that this number will be reduced but by how many he will not know until advices from the minister. Just how many of the boats wll comply with this decision remains to be seen. It is hardly expect that all the boats will, although many are already tied tin and more are fol lowing sun. Tne action oi the princes, ' Rupert boat owners and fishermen has been decided upon without re gard to what the American boats may be doing. The main body of the American boats has already refused to fall in line with the proposal that. In order to curtail production and thus bring about better prices, there be a certain number of days allowed to elapse between the time boats arrive and the time they clear. Just how the Canadian boats expect this latest move to have any marked effect in their benefit, with the 'American fleet continuing to operate in full swing, is at least a little hard to perceive but the low price situation has, apparently. driven them to try any resort. It is apparent, however, that any boats which do not f 11 in line will now tend to benefit by not doing so. It Wednesday's Incident There was considerable more or less vague talk about an incident on the local waterfront early Wed nesday morning of this week over the abortive arrival at this port of the American schooner Estep, laden with 20,000 pounds of halibut, which, although she approached the wharf here, continued her voyage to Ketchikan without landing. One does not merely follow the action but Is virtually carried along by It. Jackie Cooper,.ln the titular role, gives a performance that Is marvellously understanding for one so young while little Bobby Coogan, young brother of the famous Jackie, keeps in tempo from start to finish. These two youngsters catch at the heartstrings and grow In the affections from the first glimpse to the final fade-out. With humanncss as its great as set and simplicity as its greatest charm, "Skippy" is a picture for everybody from the smallest child to the oldest citizen to really enjoy. It is true to childhood and childhood dreams and Is not without big dramatic moments. It is difficult, indeed, to sit through some of the scenes with dry eyes. Little Mltai Green is another of the juvenile stars. It is a memorable picture and is rightly classed as one of the ten best cinema plays of the year.
