Prince Rupert is only one of a thousand places where the inhabitants are inclined to be pessimistic. It is like influenza, it spreads rapidly, tWs'pessimistic'attjtude toward everything. i And yet in the past we have found that as we moved forward the pessimism passed away and the difficulties we . thought were there disappeared like the rising mists in the morning. Today there is a mifflgef discontent which will vanish as it came, no one knowing Exactly whence it came or whither it goes. In a year' we shall look back and wonder why we felt as We do today. UNIVERSITY RUMPUS Under the heading "Tremble Students, Tremble!" the Vancouver Sun publishes the following leading editorial in a recent number: "Having failed to intimidate the Senate of the University t of British Columbia, the Tolmie Government launches a covert cabinet attack upon the students of that temerity to hold an opinion. And that opinion, expressed in the Ubyssey, consists of a protest against the manner in which the government is treating the University. "Even the most reactionary members of the Victoria Cabinet will admit that the very first purpose of the University is to teach students how to form opinions. "And yet when thev form one and exnress it in their own publication, the awful majesty of the Cabinet is to be ar-' rayea against them. . , "Students are not playing politics. ( It is highly unlikely that any one of them cares very much whether a Liberal or Conservative government is administering the University. In fact, they deprecate the idea of political manipulations in any regard to the institution.
