Grain Alcohol Price Reduced Efforts of B. C. Hospitals Associa tion Meet With Success The Prince Rupert General Hos pital board was advised at Its meeting last night by J. II. McVety. oretident of the British Columbia Hospitals Association, that a re duction from $19.48 to $17.80 per gallon' In the price of pure grain alcohol for hospital purposes was about to be made by the liquor control board. Figures were given showing that the cost of grain alcohol to the government at present was $17.55. Appreciation was due F. J. Burd, president of tlw Vancouver General Hospital Board, for his as sistance In having the price reduc tion brought about, the letter stated. S. D. Macdonald. Aid. Brown and other directors agreed that a better ambulance was desirable. The matter was referred to the 1931 board for Its-consideration. . Aid. Brown expressed the opinion that the government should not collect a motor vehicle licence fee for the ambulance. Government Agent C. L. JOHN, N.B., Jan. 19: Stepping out of the city's harness to make way for motor equipment, four of St. John's best known fire horses were auctioned off a few days ago. They were Barney and Dan. a pair of matched blacks, which had hauled the steam engine at number one station for 11 years, Joe, wrth 14 yews' service, and Fred with five. Barney and Dan. 14 arid 15 years old, brought $16t. Joe, 17, and Fred, 14, were sold separately for $2.50 and $5210. The sale leaves but 10 horses in St. John's fire department, the Commissioner pointing out about $400 annually was saved by the replacement of each horse by motor equipment. Along with some 40 of their predecessors, Barney and Dan and Fred and Joe have gone to the farm. Hospital Deficit During December Operating Loss Last Month Was $1,969.12, Board Is Informed During the month of December, receipts of the Prince Rupert General Hospital had, totalled $4,080.81 and disbursements $0,060,23, leaving a deficit on the month's operations of $1,969.42. it was reported by O. P. Tinker, chairman of the house committee, at the monthly meeting last evening of the hospital board.
