AFTER ALL ITS THE LITTLE BXIXV THAT COUNT k year or bo ago, before vitamins became popular, food 'eiperU were all talking "calorics." Calories are to food what "D.T.U.V are to coal . . . units of heat. The natural heat of the human body is determined by the timber of-calorics supplied by certain foods. Similarly, the amount of heat your furnace develops, depends on the kind of coal you use. The more heat units there are In the coal you use, the warmer your home will be. It always pays to buy the coal which has the most B.T.U.'s . per dollar. Nanaimo-Welliugton and Comox Coal actually contain mure heat units than any other coal you buy on this market. These Island Coals by chemical analysis show an average of 13,030 H.T.U's, where other non-Island grades hardly ever show more than 10,000 . . . often less. Therefore when you buy Island Coal you are buying more . heat per dollar. You are also helping to support one of the major industries of Ilritish Columbia and you arc doing your share in helping to so'lvc the unemployment problem. ..Any one of the dealers listed herewith will guarantee honest ' "weight, honest grading and honest prices. Always order "Nanaimo-Wellington" or "Comox" Coal. Remember it's the "B.T.U.V that count! "Rupert Brand" SMOKED LAC Prepared Daily By Canadian Fish & Cold Storage Co.; ltd. PRINCE RUPERT, R.C. With the ceremonies of ushering in 1931 now well and truly celebrated, the thoughts of the most of the marine people are now turning from the doldrums of the winter and close season to the serious matter of preparing for the activities of the coming year. Soon again there will be the usual bustle and stir which has been so noticeable by its absence during' the past six weeks or so. worK on ine nanout boats will fie; : starting soon if they are to be ready ,by the appointed date. Then will follow the salmon people and It will not seem long until business is again as usual. Meantime, most everybody has been able to weather ! through the winter and all are look-! ing forward with great hopes to the i coming year. The hallbutters are"! hoping things will be a good deal; better than in 1930. Tnose In the salmon game will be well satisfied If 1931. Is as good as was last year. The provincial police cruiser P. M. L. 8 and the Indian Department's Naskeena have been getting in quite a few running hours Just recently although we may not all be privileged to know what all the running around Is about. Both boats are in good shape and ready for an active season. Good progress Is being made with the coiiatruetlon of Dr. U W. Ker- gln's fine new power cruiser at the local dry dock and the craft will be ready In plenty of season for 1931 activities, it appears to be a trim little vessel and should be one of the show boats of the local yachting fleet. A Red Wing engine Is be lng installed. Tenderers on the new power ves sel which it was planned to build for the use of the Prince Rupert Fisheries Experimental Station have been returned their bids and it is evidently not the intention of ' the government to proceed with 1 the construction of the vessel for the meantime at least. The local dry dock was one of the tenderers. Financial stringency Is said to have been a factor in the decision not to proceed at this time. It is to be hoped that the boat will be provid ed soon, for it Is needed. Capt. George Cook left today for Vancouver with his halibut boat Teeny Milly. The trip south Is being made so that certain adjustments may be done on the 48 h.p. semt- dlesel Gardner engine In the vessel. The Teeny Milly was built during the lart year and, in her initial sea son, fared fairly well. Capt. Cook expects to return to port in about two weeks' time. With the end ol December, the duck and goose hunting season came to a close this week. There was not much excitement attending the ; conclusion of the season since the most of the nlmrods were s'lll celebrating the festive season. There had not been much activity in hunting for a month or so. All small classified advertising goes on the from page next Tues day.
