CENTS w VERYONE NOW TO PAY INCOME TAX 1 C- - CANADA Local Fishermen and Owners Boats Agree To Sell Their United Pacific Fisheries to Purchase Halibut Here and at Seattle for Atlantic Pacific Co. at 12c and 9c Fifty of Seventy Boat Owners Here Sign Up with New Concern If Experiment Proves Successful Local Fish Buyers Will do Out of Business and Fish Exchange Disappear Three hundred boat owners and fishermen o'f Prince Rupert, dissatisfed with prices that have been paid them during the past few years and seeking some sort of co-opera tve marketing of fish, at a meeting here last night agreed to market their fish exclusively with the United Pacific Fisheries of Seattle, which concern, on behalf of the Atlantic Pacific Fisheries, a large American company, doing business throughout the United States, will pay a flat rate of twelve cents for first class fish and nine cents for second. This price, the boat owners and fishermen declare, is much better than the average hey were paid last year. Some fifty boat owners signed up last night with the company. There are about seventy boat owners altogether here. The same price will be paid for American and Canadian fish alike and the grading basis will be that of 1930 namely, first class fish to be that weighing from 10 to SO pounds. Should all the boat owners agree to do business exclusively with this firm, it would have the effect of putting local company buyers out of business and closing up the husiness of the Fish Exchange. The boat owners and fishermen seem to be confident that the new system will he successful. . , C. W. Nickcrson presided over the meeting which was held in the Elks Hall and which proved very enthusiastic. The following telegram was received by the local ( "ranch of the Deep, Sea Fishermen's Union from P. B. Mil. general secretary-treasurer in Seattle : "The United Pacific Fisheries have made a deal with the tlarttic Pacific Fisheries to take all fish shipped from Seattle and Prince Rupert at 12c and Dc for the Present, later price to be determined when our internal troubles are settled. Last year's weight will prevail."
