PAGE FOUR RAILWAYMEN! CHAMPIONS Panthers Won Game Last Night But Not By Sufficient Margin Junior Final Boy Scent? Defeated Japanese in; Speedy Game to Win Title The Panthers beat the Canadian National Recreation Association in a terrific basketball match last night 30-35, but in the series C. N R. A. are eight points ahead, thus winning the championship of the senior league. The Scouts again took the Japanese in a speedy game, 23-12, giving them the championship of the junior division. In the girls' exhibition match, the Cardinals outplayed the champion Amazons, 10-8. Senior Game With a 13-potnt lead to overcome, the Panthers set a terrific pace right from the whistle and the spectators knew they were going to be treated to some real fast basket-balL Both teams were pressing hard and, in the first ten minutes, the score stood 8-8. The Panthers called time out to get reorganized and. with reinforced pep, strove again against the hard playing railway boys but, at half time, were only able to obtain a two-point lead. In the second half, the boys started to play wary ball. The Panthers seemed to be playing a defensive game which would never get them the required lead. However, not for long! The Panthers started to press again. Mitchell strove hard on the forward line and the Panthers got a seven-point lead. Things were getting a little dangerous for C. N. R. A. so they cut down the lead again and, with but four minutes to play, the score stood 28-23 for Panthers. Given confidence by the O. N. R. A.'s victory in the hat few minute of the game the other night, Panthers put every bit of pep they had Into the eame. but at the final whistle, the score stood 30-25. j The Panthers were exceptionally poor when shooting penalties for they missed 10 out of 14. Johnson was the star man for C. N. R. A. while Cross and Mitchell were the standby of the Panthers. C. N. R. A. Styles (10). Morrison. Johnson .8). Lambie 17). Stalker, R. Morrison.
