Girls and Ladles' Radions' Meeting (Continued from Page 1) on a recent visit here, had informed J. J. Little, manager of the Northern B. C. Power Co., that. If Insulators on the line were changed to the suspension type, there would probably be considerable improvement in reception. During the year the association had had seven general meetings. Felix Batt. part time radio inspector, had . attended to many complaints during the year. Transformers had been checked and necessary repairs made by the Northern B. C. Power Co. A letter from H. L. Taylor, inspector of electrical energy for the province, advised the association that' the transmission line of the Northern B. C. Power Co. had been approved both by the city and the office of the Inspector of electrical energy. Mr. Taylor stated, however, that the matter had been taken up with the Dominion radio inspection service In Vancouver with a view to having the situation cleared up. A letter from C. P. Edwards, director of radio service for Canada, stated that, in co-operation with the Power Corporation of Canada, efforts had already been made to minimize the interference caused by the transmission line In Prince Rupert. Several Inspections had been made and experiments applied but. to date, without much success. The Interference was more noticeable in Prince Ruocrt because of the lesser receptivity due to long distance from the broadcasting stations. Such interference would not be so noticeable in centres nearer the broadcasters The power Corporation, the letter continued, had SALE 3 DAYS ONLY- Thursday, Friday, Saturday FRASER and PAYNE'S After stocktaking we have thrown out various lines of merchandise from our stock tp make space for new goods, general household linen, blankets, etc. priced below market value. All known means af eliminating the interference had been applied but further means would be sought. In the meantime, everything possible was being done to clean up the situation. Information Given Felix Batt, part Umc radio Inspector, stated that the department had been given the most complete InformaUon by him as to all details in connection with the transmission line. The department was fully acquainted with the situation and he (Mr. Batt) thought it would be presumptuous on the part of the association to advise experts of the department as to what should be done. Mr. Gray, radio inspector, while here, had expressed the opinion that, if a new type of insulator were Installed, the Interference might be reduced 50 to 75. Mr. Little, however, said that the cost of making the proposed changes would probably be $10,000. After some discussion, the meeting decided to get the regulations covering high power lines to ascertain whether or not everything here was in order. The mfetirpaased a r rflOVl by F.TV7 Wesch and J. Fred Rlffou suggested that radio owners and sympathizers boycott the power company by discontinuing taking light service until reception conditions were Improved. After considerable discussion on the matter, the association agreed to a suggestion of R. T. J. Rose that Off Keg. Prices the local Inspector, subject to approval by the executive of the association, be empowered to lnstal where It was deemed necessary condensers or other devices necessary to eliminate Interference from private sources such as from sewing machines, regenerative sets, etc. On motion of J. W. McAuley the association decided to ask Ottawa to give an Increase in salary to the local part time Inspector so that he would be able to give more time to :the work. The valuable work that , Mr. Batt was doing not only In the city but also In the district was referred to. It was estimated that there were now upwards of 700 receivers in the district. Supoort for the salary increase move will also be sought from Terrace and Smlthers. While Mr. Batt expressed the belief that the average furnace oil burner was not a cause of radio interference, the Association decided $p aMhjj city council that aji eiec- ture be subject to approval by the radio Inspector. Radio dealers of the city will be asked by the association to furnish Mr. Batt with names of all new radio purchasers in the city. , la answer to a question by Mr. MhW'rfwaeS?!- tion by aajateJtlrs vthe Thy was not an appreciable! interference to ordinary radio reception.
