At present Canada has no powerful station, the best, being Calgary, which is giving very satisfactory results. If Vancouver had as good a station or a little better, Prince Rupert would be able to get Canadian reception all the lime. As it is they have to be regaled by the wonderful cures of some medicine, the virtues of a special brand of American flour or the lucky method of curing throat trouble. The air is full of specifics and eulogies and to get a httle music the listener is nauseated with much advertising. Even music itself is perverted to the jingle of an advertisement rhyme. j In a newspaper the reader has the option of reading the advertisements or not as he pleases but when listening over the radio there is nothing to do but tune out and try some other station. That is one reason why Calgary radio station is so popular. There are few objectionable interruptions. Even if the music is not always very high class it ib better than the terrible discord of mingling crude advertisements with good music. ' GOOD NEWS'FROM OTTAWA Canadians will be glad to hear the good news from Ottawa that Premier Bennett proposes to balance his budget While doubtless tax increases will be necessary it is also necessary to pay our way as a country in order to keep our credit good both in Canada and abroad; It was thought that balancing the budget this year would be impossible but the Premier says he is about to do it and we wish him luck. It is what every government, federal, provincial and municipal has to do if it will keep its borrowing power. Antoog the things most people like to forget may be mentioned the stock market. And yet the time wfll come when that kind of luxury will be popular once more. Priee 50c i box Her Heart Was So lad CouldYt Do Housework Mrs. & Dnna. CSEY UErLIES i Editor, Daily News: Having read with interest letters : appearing over signatures of clti-i zeti and Observer on the 8th and 9th inst. The inference I gather 1 from their argument, is that those ! : who oppose the views set forth by, the Invisible writers are first. Law-1 breakers, police bosses and all-i round bad people who wish to im-' Ipose their criminal rule on an in- j nceent public through the abolition , i of our present police system. i It little behooves myself or anyj : other person to Impute ulterior mo- ' Uvea to these who differ with us in opinion. It is by honest difference of opinion that we arrive at. sound conclusions and correct ! judgment. However. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, "you may fool: aM the people some of the time and ' fsme of the people an the time, but , you can't foot ad the people all the ; ttese." For remember everything that gutters is net geld. The thing : for the voters to bear In mind Is that, where authority Is not estab-lkhed and maintained by the body pontic. It develops back of the rsreen through an Invisible force exercising dominant authority without retpensibilHy.
