Pattullo, leader of the Liberal party In British Columbia, at a reception and dance at Sooke Hall. More than two hundred and fifty "men and women attended. The reception commenced at 8 o'clock. Mr. Pattullo receiving his guests In company with his daughter, Mrs. Clifford S. Colllson, Alex CampbeU and II. C. Helgeson. In a brief address of welcome Mr. Pattullo explained the occasion which caused him to give the party. At a political meeting held in Sooke a few weeks ago, he had commented upon the omission of Attorney-General "Pooley to ask the opinion of the Legislature before recommending to Ottawa abolition in British Columbia of grand juries. Ills good friend Alex Campbell had remarked that Mr. Pattullo had supported such a move hlm.self some year ago. Mr. Campbell had added that If his memory was at fault he would give a dance to the community. Cause of Party Mr. Pattullo said that, at the Ume. he could not recall having suppor-! ted any such proposal. To match ! the offer of Mr. Campbell he had ' offered to give the dance himself if he had supported such a proposal. Mr. Pattullo pointed out that his criticism of the attorney-general had not been so much against abol-1 ltion of grand Juries as objection to j the high-handed method adopted by Mr. Pooley In acting without consulting the Legislature on such 1 an important matter. Investigation had shown that! when J. W. deB. Farris, K.C.. had I been attorney-general, a resolution supporting abolition of grand juries had been before the Hduse and Mr. Pattullo fbund he had supported the proposal. He was glad occasion had been given htm to again meet his friends in Sooke and he expressed delight that such a large attendance marked the occasion. Mr. Campbell then presented Mrs. Cojllson wtth flowers and C. E. Whltney-Orifflths. president of the Sooke Liberal Association, moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Pattullo. A. The matter. Is being taken up by the boards of trade both at Prince Ru pert and Haselton. The hospital board Is considering the advisability of handling patients on the city payroll on a contract rate of $1 per month to be contributed by each person on the payroll. A special committee was appointed at a board meeting yes terday to go further Into the pro posal. The special committee consist of C. V. Bennett, chairman. D. O. Stewart, P. I. Palmer, J. A. Klrk-patrlck and O. II. Nelson. The program for a big celebration to be staged here on Dominion Day has been finally drawn up. There will be water sport, children's races, para, land sports and five-mile rare. The land sports will be staged on Second Avenue between Fifth and Eighth Streets.
