They have their reward. Today I want to take a fall out of the self-righteous men and women who stay at home and sneer at those who go to church. I mean the men and women who consider themselves so good that the church l could not make them any better and who scoff when they see some poor sinner trying to live a better life, steadily climbing toward the higher things and then falling. These men are to be pitied but surely not blamed. Sometimes we hear sneers at the clergy who are making a good effort to be real pastors of a real flock. They are making this their life work and it Is a pretty hard one to have to pry loose a few sheckels from the congregation to keep the church going. The sneers come again from the men and women who stay at home and not from those who attend church. If In doing this he sometimes reverts to original type or falls Into the abyss, remember It Is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all. Life Is made up of a series of efforts. Sometimes they are successful and sometimes they fall but the effort is the thing. If the effort is a good one, even though It does not meet with success.
