The opening exchanges favored first one side and then the other, both sets of forwards trying hard to score. Home, a newcomer to local football, revealed good knowledge of the game, knew where the goal was and always opened up the play with long passes. This player tried a long shot but Smith saved. The I goalie next cleared from D. Gurvteh when the left winger was through. The Regiment took up the attack and Kelsey tried his luck but his shot was Just wide. Back to the other end raced the Legion first line and, after some nice combination by Murray and Baptle, Ivarson headed in from a cross from the for mer. Walters gained possession for the Regiment on the right and made one of his usual spectacular runs on the wtng. Th Legion goalie fisted Walters' parting shot dear. but the ball rebounded to Walters agatti who shoWind S. Gurvteh. fell on the balHo save but Norrlngton tried hard to force both goalkeeper and ball over the line. The "keeper was fouled In the attempt which re lieved the pressure. Norrlngton had hard lines when he came close with a lovely header from Walters' per fect cross from the right wing. The pressure by the Regiment was sus tained for several minutes and great excitement prevailed. Walters was right through but lost a glorious opportunity to score when he shot wide. The Maroons took up the attack again and Home put in a beauty but his shot was Just wide of the post. D. Gurvteh was right through on the left but Thurber wept the winger's feet from under htm just as he was about to snoot I In the penalty area. Colusst put in a 'good shot at the other end but S. Ourvich caught and eleared. The play was veering from end to end and was fast and interesting. There had been little to choose (between the teams who were providing an excellent standard of football.
