NEW YORK BAVARIAN Occupation of Colony By British Prevented Deal Going Through, Archives Show lonles and the creation of a Bavarian navy. His efforts were warmly advocated by the Elector Ferdinand Maria. Bavaria's search for colonies was born out of th thirty years' war which had ravaged the country and exhausted the treasury. After Man- ) hattan had been lost to it, Bavaria turned to .South America. A trip to dulana convinced Dr. Bccher of the advantages of that continent. In a report to Munich he described its wealth and climate glowingly. 'The yield of gold, silver and other precious metals could make Bavaria rich," the report reads. "Sugar, rubber, dyestuffs and other products could provide a comfort able living for at least 50,000 Bav arians." According to the documents, the Dutch were quite willing to sell pari of their possession to Bavaria but the colonial scheme passed Into- oblivion for some undlvulgcd reasons. The reports rested In the archives almost 300 years. A general house cleaning brought them to light again.
