Mandy, resident mining engineer, on placer operations in the Atlin district. These workings were carried down the creek untllft the ground became too deep. In the deeper area two old shafts were sunk to bedrock on the rim about four miles upstream from the mouth. In the most northerly of these bedrock Is Indicated about 40 feet below the present creek sur- Takla Lake on which a deal was recently completed at Edmonton. At the head of the party is M. F. About two mUes up the : derUklng, having taken an option creek some Individuals are ground sluicing and shovelling in from the shallow ground on the west rim- slope. The old channel seems to conform approximately to the pre sent creek valley but an apparent peculiarity Is the number of small areas on the high rim slope carrying coarse gold. It would seem that in the upper section of the creek there may still be appreciable patches of pay ground on the rim from which Individuals might make fair wages by shovelling-in. On account of the reported occurrence of coarse angular gold in grass-roots of the higher rim slope, it would seem that the higher altitude of the upper creek area would also be worthy of prospecting for lode-gold outcrops. Moran and Hodges, with a crew of tour men. are hydraulicking on three leases on Wright Creek about four miles upstream from the mouth of the creek. The camp at 4025 feet is reached by motor road connecting with the main Surprise Lake road at Otter Creek. Water for the operation is conserved by two small dams about a mile apart. The same method of hydraulicking as that of the Campagnie Franca Ue des Mines d'or du Canada is being applied on the Wright Creek opera tion. Bedrock at the present piping Is estimated at about forty feet from surface. Despite statements to the con on the leases held by Mr. Brown who will be in charge of the work. The principal of the company has been at Smlthers during the past few days to confer with the gold commissioner. It is possible the operators may move their railway headquarters from Burns Lake to Smlthers if the landing field at the latter point is found to be suitable. For some time there have been rumors of a big gold strike north of Burns Lake. Mickey Nash, well known prospector and 'pioneer of the Portland Canal district and follower of every camp of Importance in the west for close on to'forty years, suffered a paralytic stfoke of the left arm and left stde of Tils face at Stewart.
