Dec. 15. 1933 VANCOUVER'S IJKIDGK SCHEME Vancouver people have decided in favor ef granting a charter to a company to build a new bridge connecting Stanley Park w ith West Vancouver. It is a scheme which has been under consideration for many years and will doubtless prove of great value to the city. Shipping interests opposed the bridge as possibly hampering shipping while many people objected to spoiling Stanley Park by making through it an industrial highway. Others considered that the park was large and its value would not be greatly leaned by the highway. Most of the objection to the scheme came from vested interests that would be adversely affected. Happily it is difficult for vested interests, either of capital or labor, to interfere with the progress of the world. We must keep pace with advancing civilization. WHY HOLD US HACK? Some day before very long it is to be hoped that Prince Rupert will be able to overcome the inertia and obstacles to progress which prevent the people of the city getting into close touch with the interior country except through the railway. .At present the work on the highway is closed down and the railway company refuses to allow anything but an exorbitant and prohibitive rate on autos carried by it to Skeena Crossing or Terrace. We are shut in because it is considered unprofitable to let us out. Hamiilv we have friends in the seats of the mitrhtv and it ia. confidently expected that action will be taken soon to rectify "the (present condition. In the meantime we" must refuse to take no for an answer when asking for a change.
