C, Stevens Looks For Rush This Year to Queen Charlotte Islands Development Too Program Planned For Prince Kupert Group Which Was Recently Bonded E. C. Stevens of Skldegate, who arrived in the city yesterday on the Beatrice H and who Is returning to the Islands this afternoon, Is tremendously enthused over the mining proipecu on the Queen Chat -lottes. He says a number of prospectors have already arrived this spring and more are coming soon. In fact, he expect to see a mining rush to the islands before very long which will draw the attention or the world to that part of the province. Telling of the Prince Rupert group' of claims on Kootenay Inlet, which was recently taken over by the Haida Oold Mining Co.. Mr. Stevens says that, following a mill test recently made, he had an urgent wire to go south. He sent Mrs. Stevens instead and she went off oo the last trip of the Prince John. Twfl tunnels are to be driven on the property by residents of the Islands, one 300 feet long and the other 150 feet, both of which are expected to cut three of the veins on the property. There are. In all. eight main veins with a number of smaller cross veins, all carrying good values in free milling gold and some silver. The property Is on a mountain a mile from tidewater and 500 feet above the sea. Over a mile of ore-bearing veins are exposed and. on a recent flight, aviators reported that they could see the veins plainly from 500 feet In the air. They are on the contact between the limestone and volcanic tuff. The Beatrice IL has been chartered by the company for work in connection with the mine. Mir. Stevens has also received an ! offer for a gold and silver property I he owns on Cumshewa Inlet Mrs. : 8tevens will deal with It while she its In the south. The property was favorably reported on by the district engineer recently. Speaking of the black sands, from which mining men have for years been trying to extract the I gold but which so far have defied j profitable operation. Mr. Stevens said he felt sure there was a big and profitable quarts formation from which the fine gold comes. ' This would be up one of the small rivers flowing to that part of the island.
