Nov. 15. 1933 REMOVING THE CAUSE One of the most interesting documents issued by any financial institution is the monthly review of conditions by the Royal Bank of Canada. The writer of this letter, Donald M. Marvin, is a well known economist. His'analyses of conditions are based on facts and figures of an official nature tout his conclusions are all his own and have attracted the attention of many who usually do not read bank reports or reviews. Mr. Marvin seems to illuminate anything he deals with. We quoted from him yesterday and here are a couple pf paragraphs Vhieh will prove of interest: "At this moment, when rumors of wars and revolutions have become an added impediment to the recovery of confidence, the governments of the world must realize that economic reconstruction has made further headway than is popularly appreciated. If diplomacy can hold off war but a little longer, the fabric to hold together the economic and financial tissue will have been re-knit and the necessity for bitterness will disappear. Jt is the progress which has already been made toward reconstruction which should be the focus of attention. "It is not coincidence that rumors of war and revolution are common at the bottom of a depression. As conditions begin to improve, the bitterness of discontent is modified ; irreconciliable foes, both from within and without the country, find new formulas for compromise and, with the threat of war nb longer a necessity in order to prolong the life of government, it ceases to be a necessary element in the politician's bag of tricks. As the-discontent gradually passes aAvnyjTJVeirgovernments less able than those now in power-could Win support uuoyeu up uy a uue ui pros perity." Oddfellows' Old 1 Time Dance Very Enjoyable Event Another enjoyable. Old Time Dance was held In the hall on Fourth Avenue East by the Oddfellows' Lodae lost night, a fair-sized crowd being In attendance. James Hadden was master of ceremonies and musk was by an orche consisting of James L. Lee, James Wait, J. B. Maekay and John Bremner. The committee in .charge consisted of L. C. Bby and Norman Moore-house. Delicious refreshments were served at midnight. The Letter Box FIRST THINGS FIRST Editor, Daily News; It was quite astonishing to notice the crowd that gathered around the Cenotaph In prince Rupert at the Remembrance Day service leave their hats on during the prayer of Bishop Rx. It seems that they had no reverence for the Oreat God of Heaven who giveth peace. But they quickly took off their hats when "God Save the King' was sung. I am quite patriotic, but "God' before "JCfng" is my motto. A NATIVE OBSERVER inCOotio tr- may it7o FROM PORT SIMPSON.
