Jmn 5. 1933 JUDGE YOUNG Judge Young has just concluded a long term of over 25 years as judge of the county court for this district During that time he has dispensed justice, without fear or .favor and he retires with ah honorable record. During his term of office there has never been even a suspicion that he was swayed in his judgments by personal or other considerations. The judge has been looked upon in Prince Rupert as an nstitution. During the war days he was president of the led Cross Society and. did splendid work and he continued n the position until the services of the society were no onger required. He was also president of the Canadian 31ub and interested himself in hospital work. Of late years these interests have been dropped and he confined his duties- to carrying out his judicial work.' . . The Daily News wishes to express publicly its appreciation of the work of Judge Young in this city and district. We wish him long enjoyment of his rest period and gnly regret that he may be leaving the city before long. The best wishes of the community wiH go with him wherever he may go. TITLES ONCE MOKE Another move is to be made at Ottawa to bring back the old system of granting titles to Canadians who have earned them either by distinguishing themselves in public life. by heavy contributions to party campaign funds or by j making themselves rich at the expense of their poorer neighbors. The title scandal had became so foul that it) stank in the nostrils of the people with the result that the I King was asked by the Canadian Parliament to refrain from granting any more. For years no titles have been given to Canadians and this annoyance had been removed, it was hoped, permanently. Of late years, however, there have been sporadic movement to return ta the old system Parliament has debated the question and will do so again. Those who have visions of seeing their names in ih&list of birthday honors or some other similar list, continue to agitate for titles. Evidently we are still in the age of snobbery.
