Rupert Philharmonic Society, un-jder the conductorshlp of H. N. Brockle&by, presented its first re-icltal of the winter season. The can-I tata "A Tale of Old Japan," words by Alfred Noyes and music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, was the happy selection and the tunesome entertainment was at once novel and delightful to all. It was a distinctly new sort of undertaking 'for the Society and proved distinctly popular. The soloists were all in good voice and each did his or her part well cellence of the performance. The brevity of the program was also to be recommended. In the course of the program Dr. R. O. Large, the president of the Society, made a few brief remarks.
