F. PULLKN - - Managing-Editor NEW IMPETUS NEEDED Those who have been living in Prince ftupert for ten or twenty years are a little tired of trying to do public work in the interest of the city through the Chamber of Com inerce or any other organization. A new impetus s needed and it seems as if we are to get that impetus through the new city commissioner. He is attempting to arouse the people of the city to a sense of thjeir responsibilities and their opportunities. While he has been treading on some of our toes it is not sufficient to make us limp and it may possibjy waken us from our lethargy. ; There are in the city many who are practically newcomers but who have not yet interested themselves in city affairs to any appreciable extent. Now that we are receiving the necessary prodding from the commissioner, possibly we shall get some life into our public or semi-public bodies. There is need of it Chamber of Commerce meetings have dwindled until it is almost impossible to secure a quorum. There has been a feeling that "it is useless to )vick," that efforts in the past having failed, efforts in the future also must fail. Now, possibly, we shajl have to change our attitude and once more cultivate that aggressive spirit which is necessary if we are to achieve anything as a city. The commissioner has a difficult role to fill. He is bound to displease many. It is because of the objectionable duties he has to perform that he is commissioner instead of being mayox No mayor and council could afford to be as unpopular as a commissioner is, temporarily at least, bound to become if he carries out his duties faithfully. We must expect to be annoyed at some of the policies he puts into force. While this is going on let us take his advice in regard to being on our toes for new business and in forwarding the interest? of the city in every possible way. The sooner we get business going here the sooner we shall get rid of the commissioner. Off to catch the big fellows? Then don't forget the KLIM!
