Nov. 37. 1931 It is rather interesting to hear the various (millions ex pressed in Canada as to whether the Roosevelt policy in the United States will be a success. In Prince Rupert the opinio? meat apmmonly expressed is that it is a failure or xm be a failure. And yet it does not seem reasonable to suppose that, because opposition is developing and because there are dif-f iwlties iiveonnection with the working out of the scheme, the whole-Blue Eagle plan is a failure. It must be admitted that there is a similarity between the Roosevelt plan in the United States and the Fascist plans in Italy and Germany. The weakness of the United States plan is that elections must be held at stated periods and that, during election campaigns, free play is given to the critics. At such a time the people are swayed to and fro by waves of political enthusiasm and no one can tell what may happen. So far as can be seen on the surface no attempt has been made in Canada to deal with a problem which has been very greatly accentuated during the past few years both here and in other countries. Take Canada as an example. There is too milch wheat, beef, pork, mutton and other fnn products with the result that tlje producer floes not get enough to pay for raising it. There is also tod much clothing in the country. On the other hand there are thousands of people who are unable to get enough to at and wear. Roosevelt's action is an attempt to right this wrong. Canada seems to have made no attempt. The gestures of the C. C. F. and of the , Communist proups have been made with a view to righting the wrong. Mr. Bennett has a great opportunity to deal with it. -We are not suggesting how the problem should be solved'but standing pat and allowing nature to take her course, is only putting off the evil day. Some action must be taken and, if the'reasonable men of the country will not take it, the unreasonable people will do so.
