World) London, July 16.—Lady Con- stance Foljambe,who sensationally disappeared on her wedding day, presented herself as a witness at the inquest at Malton, Yorkshire, of the farm lad whose death was attributed to ill treatment by his master. Lady Constance looked worn and nervous. She betrayed great nervousness while testifying pulling at the fingers of her gloves all the time. She came with a woman friend and motored away immediately when her testimony was con- cluded. She is staying at a small village on the Yorkshire coast. A reporter asked her for an explanation of her jilting her fiance. HOTELS HAD TO USE CAMP FIRES Break in Watermain Prevented Kitchen Stoves from Being Used, but Chefs Refused to be Beaten and Served Excellent Meals. Consternation reigned in the kitchens of two of the most popular hotels in the city this morning, but thé patrons of the dining rooms of these welcoming hostelries would never guess that the substantial and excellent meals served had been cooked under most unusual circumstances over RR ges ‘ se THE DAILY NEWS hotel yards. Ballasting operations at the wharf depot had somehow caused a break in the G. T. P. watermain, and the whole supply had to be cut off temporarily to enable re- pairs to be made. The mishap occurred at the most unfortunate time possible for the cocks, but with all the energy (and some of the language) of true born pioneers, they got busy, kindled camp fires out of doors, and managed to serve the meals triumphantly on time. The shutting off of the water made it impossible fo keep fires going in the stoves in case of boiler explosions. Efforts were made to have the supply restored as quickly as possible.
