Canneries Continue Busy Only one salmon cannery in the northern secUon of Prince Rupert district, Haysport on the Skeena River, is closing down with the ending of sockeye fishing In the Skeena and Naas River areas this week-end. All other canneries on the Skeena and Naas Rivers are remaining open to pack fall varieties the run of which is possibly a little better than In 1932. The majority of the canneries in Rivers and Smith's Inlet In the southern section of the district have closed down with the termination of sockeye fishing a week ago. During the final week of sockeye fishing on the Naas and Skeena Rivers, the gillnetters have been averaging 35 pinks and half a dozen sockeye to the boat Co hoes, of which there has beea a good run on the trolling grounds, are commencing to show up in the gill nets. Halibut landings at the port of ?rlnce Rupert for the 1934 season up to and including yesterday had eached a. total of 10,838.865 pounds jf which 5,200.065 pounds was from Canadian vessels and 5,638300 pounds from American. For the week ending yesterday landings amounted to 542.500 pounds in cluding 283,000 pounds from Canadian boats and 259,500 pounds from American. The high price of the week for Canadian fish was 6.3c ind 5c received by the Signal for 10,000 pounds and the low 45c and :5c which the Aiken and Gibson were paid for catches of 12.000 and ;8,000 pounds respectively. For American fish the top price of the week was 6.3c and 4c paid the Ola-:ier, Hazel II. and Sherman for catches of 13,000, 17,000 and 16,000 pounds respecUvely. The low bid of the week for American fish was 43c and 4c received by the Husky L. for 5,000 pounds.
