Prior to the treaty Canadian boats sailed out of Canadian ports to engage in sealing. They met the herds coming north and took their toll of the valuable pelts. They made money by this sealing and brought considerable wealth to the ports from which they sailed. Today Prince Rupert is the logical port from which to engage in pelagic sealing. If the treaty were set aside, any local boats could go out and take the seals as they went north to their breeding grounds. This, it is to be presumed, would soon reduce the number of seals passing through these waters and would thus protect the edible fish which they destroy in thousands. We agree with the Senator that Canada'Udes not get enough out of the eeals. We think that, instead of revision of the treaty, the old treaty should be abrogated and the seals allowed to take a chance with the whale3 and other creatures of the Pacific Ocean. BUILDING A HUSINESS People who are building a business cannot afford to sell customers anything that might tend to injure their busi ness. When they sell goods, they are anxious to see that the values are there. Any other policy is suicidal. In time customers get to rely on a merchant and feel that he is as good as his word and that the goods he handles are up to. the standard represented. Retailors are sometimes imposed upon by the wholesaler or the factory fails to deliver goods that are up to standard. The merchant gets the blame for this. However, in the long run people of a community get to know what stores treat them right by giving them good values for" the money expended. This is what counts in the building of a business.
