This is the month to plant tulips and other bulbs, that stand the winter. Gladiolus bulbs must be dried like begonias and kept away from frost. Some gardeners plant their roses now but many will prefer to wait for spring. Chrysanthemums that have not I i?i bloomed should be lifted and taken indoors or into a protected porch. They will bloom any time before. Christmas. They make a nice show--lng when most other flowers have disappeared. The fall and early spring, are the times when the old fashioned ger- anlums are valuable for their color. They should bloom for a month or two yet. A number of people have asked The Oold-Iianded Auratum Lily me what will be done about rise importations this year. Frankly lido not know. It will b6 a matter for the horticultural society to decide. A meeting will be called for the purj pose early in the new year when' new officers will be elected and preparations made for the next season's work. Just now Is a good time to plan. A number of people have said they would prefer to select a few good roses, buying them through local dealers or agents, but others have expressed the opinion that If this is to be a city of roses there must yet be large importations of trees at very low prices. Possibly two thousand more could be absorbed here by local growers, especially if they begin work and prepare the ground for them now. It's a good time to plan and discuss the matter with neighbors with a view to taking the best possible action in the interests of the city and of the cause of gardening, II, F P.
