The question came up In connection with the application for admission to the training school of a local Japanese girl who Is desirous of becoming a nurse so that she may take up missionary work In Japan. President O. V. Wilkinson was Inclined to think the hospital should not discriminate In the matter of nationality, particularly if by admltUng a Japanese student, it was not keeping a white girl out. O. P. Tmker held views similar to Mr. Wilkinson. The Japanese were a highly cultured people and It must be remembered that this was not an ordinary employment but a professional training. He saw no particular objection to admltUng a Japanese student W. M. Brown took an opposite view. He was In favor of confining the training school to white girls. He thought some of the patients might object to Oriental nurses. Oriental teachers In the schools and he thought It would be 111-advlsed to Introduce them as student nurses In this small hospital.
