TTovember 27, 1934 INTERESTING EXHIBIT While the skeleton of the big basking shark now at the marine station is not anything new to science it is a very interesting exhibit and it is hoped arrangements will be made for it to be cleaned and set up somewhere so that the local children and visitors may have an opportunity of seeing it Prince Rupert has already a small exhibit of Indian relics in the Bank of Commerce building and plans have been laid to materially increase it. If this big skeleton could be added to the collection and a proper place found to house it the city would be well on the way to a real museum collection that would be a permanent attraction to the port. REACTION SETTING IN Right Hon. W. L. Mackenzie King, Liberal leader at Ot-'; tawa, intimates that a reaction is setting in on the other , side of the Atlantic against dictatorships and towards democracy, Under which all the people have a say in the government of the country. He might have added that there is a reaction almost everywhere against communism, Socialism and other freak theories which have been fomeh-' ' tetf during the time of the world-wide depression. Takings its place is a determined liberalism which recognizes the ! .'injustice of a system under which the workingman is the j economic structure promises to "become more permanent LIBERAL POLICIES Right Hon. R. B. Bennett is promising a liberal policy in unemployment insurance. It matters not that it' is to be introduced by a Conservative. To that extent Mr. Bennett is not conservative. He is liberal. So Hon. H. H. Stevens is a Liberal when he suggests relieving unemployment by a big program of construction. He may call himself Conservative but the policy is Liberal. It matters little to the people of Canada how they get their reforms or what party fathers them. Liberalism is not bounded by any party and it has been noticed that in some cases Liberals have been more conservative than members of the Conservative party. The whole country is going liberal today but not necessarily supporting the Liberal party at Ottawa, To the extent that Mr. Mackenzie King represents the 'forces of Liberalism he will be given the support of the people of the country. One of the pufnosel cifShcse atlvcrtis'ementj is to direct the thoughts of Canadunj to the r j- imnorrant part niavctl in tneir uany nves ry railways umc rainn- that, since no one in Canada, young or old, in country or in city, is independent of their services either for personal tranjportation or for the carriage of materials, it is of vital importance to the Dominion that railways should he maintained on a scale adequate to meet national requirements. Substitutes for rail transportation may from time to time be used but in the last analysis and particularly for long dijtance hauls it is to the railways, which day in and day out in all seasons and under all conditions carry out their appointed tasks, that the public looks for safe, speedy, reliable and economical transportation. The measure of a railway's services is determined by the use which the public makes of , - them. In many respects the factors governing the operation of railways are the same as those in other businesses which depend tm selling what they produce, . and there must necessarily be a close connection between the amount of service which it find a market. In the end a railway can provide and the amount for can reduced transportation sales mean reduced railway services; increased sales mean expanding services. ' . Became of their nature and importance, any reduction of railway services involves inconvenience, perhaps actual hardship, somewhere. It also imposes additional cost on the remaining services. On the other hand a steady or increasing use of railways will enable not only adequate services to be maintained but will provide for their more economical operation. It will also stimulate business in every branch of industry by the direct help it gives, by the wages it pays. to employees, and by its purchases of material. For these reasons the C. N. II. is determined to get more business for all the services it operates . . . more passengers . . . more freight traffic . . . more hotel 'gucsis , ,.. more users of its telegraphs . . . more packages for its express. This, of course, can only be done by giving patrons the highest possible alue for their money by making them glad to use the C. N. K. and to recommend it to others. 'I hi the C N. R. has set tni to do. invited. C. N. H. -equipment is Your co-operation and patronage arc respectfully up-to. date; and C. N, R. employees are efficient and helpful. Use the C. N. H. for all transportation purposes you will be satisfied.
