Also they visited many other districts. For ten years Mr. Russ worked without any remuneration, then the Methodist Church Board gave him $10 a month to act as Inter preter and helper to the missionaries. Mrs. 'Russ for years acted as a foster mother to the white missionaries. She boarded them and looked after their needs. In order to become a Christian missionary to his own people Mr. Russ gave up all his rights and authority as a chief. He did atgreat wTrk. In his patlve village. Among other things the present church Is amonument to his memory. He was the inspiration and influence behind the builders.
