People with small wages or salaries will be relieved of taxation and a bill will be introduced dealing with the matter of mortgages. This is not a bad list of problems for the Legislature to wrestle with iii its first session. If it can do anything in the way of providing work and wages and refunding the provincial debt it will have earned its first year's pay. ENCOURAGING PROSPECT Evidently Premier Bennett is planning some popular legislation before making an appeal to the country. He declares he has been negotiating with the United States with a view to arranging a reciprocity treaty and that he is planning to carry on the negotiations in a more concrete form as soon as the president is given power to bargain. The Prime Minister stresses the desirability of being fair to both Canada and United States. That is the only kind of treaty that can stand the test of experience and we are glad that the head of our government is alive to the situation. Prince Rupert has everything to gain by reciprocity. RIG ELECTRIC INSTALLATION For several months the United Empire Gold and Silver Mines .at Stewart have been spending money installing an electric system in their mine near the top of the mountain back of the town. Yesterday we were able to announce that it had been completed and that from now on the mine would be operated by electric power and lighted by the same. The jwwer is supplied by the same company that controls the supply in Prince Rupert.
