December 13, 1934 'The tremendous victory of G. G. McGeer MX.A. over Mayor L. D. Taylor in the civic contest at Vancouver was much greater than most people expected. While it was realized, that much enthusiasm was being shown for the candidate of action, it was thought that other influences would to a considerable extent offset that. We have many times heard it said that no election could he won without the weight'of the underworld on the winning fide. The present election may have proved this to be .incorrect. McGeer rallied to his support the greater part of the church influence, which is popularly supposed to be nil, and he won with a majority so great that it is"astound-mg. While McGeer promised ;a police investigation and a generally decent city, 3ie also promised financial aid in arranging a lower rate of interest on city bonds and other reforms.-Now that he is given an executive position for tefirsttime it will be very interesting to see how he measures up. If he makes good he will be able to command al-Jiiost any position in the gif t'of the people.
