On Wednesday of Holy Week this ycar.no less than 1975 tons 3,950,000 pounds) of fish was landed at the great English fishing port as compared with 2,118 tons on the same day a year ago, trawlers discharging this vast harvest of the sea for dispatch to all parts of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. In three days of Holy Week this year at Hull landings amounted to 11,744.000 pounds In comparison with 12.022,-780 pounds In the same three days last year. The following excerpt from the Hull newspaper gives some ' Idea of what that port looks like on a busy landing day: j "Landings started as carlv as 2 a.m. and by 11 o'clock the two huge! quays, which run a length of 3,100 feet and are 90 feet wide, were! stacked from end to end with bar- j rcls of fish better known as kits-each of which contained ten-stones, j "Sales of North Sea and Faroe i catches opened at 7:45 a.m.. these I being followed by the long-distance landing auctions, all of which commanded a large attendance and a brisk demand. "It was. .really surprising. In fact, how well prices were maintained throughout the morning In the face of colossal supplies. Even at noon Icelandic cod was making 12s per kit and even more In some cases a pleasing feature being the excellence of all supplies. , "Starting at 10 o'clock this morning a succession of special fish trains left Hull for Inland markets. Twenty trains will be required today to transport the fish, some having as many as 60 wagons attached. .Until 9 o'clock tonight special trains will leave the dock at inter vals, the smoothness of wnririnc arrangements reflecting great credit on the L. N. E. n. staff. "Nineteen deep-sea and 13 short- distance trawlers arrived at Hull today, and these may be auirmen ted by late discharges at the River side Quay If some boats which are i really due tomorrow dash for to day's market. "Twelve trawlers from the Icelandic fishing grounds had reached Hull by mid-day. Hull had four White Sea trawlers with arrivals also from Faroe. Two Norwegian Coast, one Bear Island and four West Coast boats also put Into Hull. "Icelandic cod predominated nn the market, but over 1,000 kits ol WhiUs Sea Jumbo haddocks were also on offer. "Over 500 ten-ton wagons of coal were shipped yesterday as trawler bunkcrs,,six coaling appliances, including one of the latest working throughout the night In (order to cope with the requirements of local trawlers which are hurry- ng out to sea again after landing their fish, "Coaling proceeded throughout the night and further all night CONVENTION IN SESSION Native Brotherhood of Northern British Columbia .Meets at Kltkatla KITKATLA.
