FLAKED COD Delicacy with Cream and Curry Powder Cold fish carefully flaked, make a mixture of cream, curry powder, salt and butter; have some boiled jrice dry and whole, cook the fish slowly in the curry mixture, and jadd the hot rice, tossing all well together; when hot, dish the ked- gern in a pyramid (should be a pretty gold color), and grate over the top some of the yolk of hard boiled cgg, cut the whites in rings and garnish with these and some fried parsley. Ever Taste Flower Sand- wiches? You make them with fragrant butter, and press them together roll They are at- tractive with a petal or two of the flowers strewn on the butter so that it will just show at the edge. Wrap the sandwiches in muslin and put them in a bowl with flowers until wanted. When handed round, lay a spray of flowers on the plate. Nasturtiums are often the flower chosen to flavor the butter with. or the slices. Beads Going Out Beads are losing hold on the favor of the ultra chic, but will be used throughout the season because so many expensive bead embroideries were bought in the spring and cannot be thrown aside. Some of the beaded arrangements are wonderfully lovely too and retain prestige by force of their charm, It is in the cheaper phases that beading hes become lkess popular. > This is a little section of the paper, which from day to day will be devoted Any and all of the ladies of Prince Rupert and to take part in its discussions. Sug- gestions and criticisms are invited by the editor. The hope is expressed that “The PHOTOGRAPHY FOR GIRLS Pleasant and Profitable Hobby Nowadays A college girl during this summer earned money to finish her course by making post cards on which were views of a noted summer resort. The most beautiful col- lection of photographs the writer has seen were made by a lady who followed the pursuit for her own pleasure. Many English women are en- geged in photography and are very successful. Pre-eminent am- ong these is Miss Alice Hughes, who began the work when it was looked upon as scarcely suited to women. We are told that Miss Hughes has probably taken more photo- graphs of royal personages and their children than any other living photographer, and she has received at different times many marks of royal favor. Not long since Queen Mary came to her studio and sat for her. | Until the accession of King |Edward and Queen Alexandra, Miss Hughes made a point of never going out of her. studio to take photographs—her sitters, even the most distinguished of them— came to her. But after that event she went several times to Bucking- |ham palace to take portraits of |Queen Alexandra; and one of her most prized treasures is a beautiful monogram brooch, set with precious stones, which was presented to her by the Queen Mother after one of these sittings. Miss Hughes is a daughter of the late Mr. Edward Hughes, the portrait painter whose pictures of beautiful women are well known. Most of the noted and lovely women of the day have sat to him. He painted Queen Mary when she was still Duchess of York, and he had the honor of painting Queen Alexandra ro less than three times. The work gives an opportunity for the development of the skill jand artistic taste which is char- | acteristic of a great many women. | LAND PURCHASE NOTICE Skeena Land District— District of Cassiar Take notice that I, Thomas Carter, of Prince Rupert, occupation carpenter, intend to apply Sor peesniaeion to purchase the following describ- land.
