Almost (Xiily this paper has important new developments to record in connection with the mining industry of Northern and Central British Columbia. Portland Canal, Terrace, Usk, Smithers, Burns Lake, Queen Charlotte Islands, Alice Arm and the coastal islands are all attracting, attention, possibly in as great a degree today as they ever did before. Some very important developments are under way on several properties. The various operations are too numerous to mention individually. A gratifying feature is that, whereas a year ago inter est was being taken in goW, today silver, owing to the re cent improvement in the price of that metal, is again com manding a large modicum of interest. Other less valuable metals are also stiffening up in price and this will also help, particularly. when, as is so common in this district, they can be found in combination with the gold and silver. THE ENDEAVOUR WINS 'Undoubtedly like in many another place, the America's Cup yacht raceg between the American defender Rainbow and the British challenger Endeavour are an all-absorbing topic of discussion and interest in Prince Rupert. Somehow or other, these periodical contests for that historic old "mug' as the late-lamented Sir Thomas Lipton used to say, sem to strike the public fancy like few other amateur sporting events do. The tradition established by the great old British sportsman is as green as ever and, judging from the - no contest" race on Saturday and the close victories of the challenger so far, Endeavour and Rainbow are going to make a great contest of it this time. We were thrilled yesterday and today as Tom Sopwith came through. The British boat might be expected to be a popular favorite from a sentimental standpoint. And we think that even the most of the American sportsmen would not feel so terribly cast down if, after so many years of hard and persistent trying by British boats, the America's Cup should be carried over to the other side atrain bv the Endeavour. Of one thine we are sure that, if it ever does Barney Ross Loses His Crown On Split Verdict After Furious Contest Both Fighters Badly Battered Although There Were No Knockdowns in Entire Fifteen Bounds Decision Gets Mixed Reception NEW YORK, Sept. 18: (CP) Before a crowd of 25,000 fans at Madison Square Garden Long Island Bowl last night, Jimmy McLarnin, belting two-fisted Irishman from Vancouver, won back his world's welterweight boxing championship title from Barney Ross, who took it away from him three months ago. Meantime, we will all continue to follow the present episode of the classic with a very keen interest. Four double-headers were played Sunday but none were split, two games being won by the same team in each case. Washington Senators, losing again to the pace-making Tigers at Detroit, slumped Info' seventh place in the American League below the Philadelphia Athletics who tooK a double-header from the Browns at St. Louis. The pennant lead of the Tigers were then five and a half games over the Yankees who lost to the Indians at Cleveland.
