April 18, 1935 h . Removal of W; J. Asselstine, for thirteen years mill superintendent of the Premier Gold Mining Co. at Pre-'.mier, to Hedjey in the Similkameen district of southern British Columbia to assume an important position will be a matter of general regret in the north throughout which he is so well and favorably known and so highly popular. Particularly will this be so since Mr. Asselstine at present is Member 'of (he Legislative Assembly for Atlin district. Of course, Ills departure from the district does not necessitate his quitting his seat in the Legislature although there is no ward yet as to what may or nay not be done in that regard. Mr, Asselstine, although ne may not be still residing in the riding which he represents, is nevertheless fully competent to continue his duties as member at least in the present Parliament and it is unlikely he will relinquish those duties unless it show! be for private reasons. ;-The Daily News joins with his many other friends in wishing Mr. Asselstine success in his new and enlarged duties in the!south. 4 'CALLING NAMES' To describe the President of the Canadian Pacific Rail way as "Public Enemy No. 1" of Canada would seem to be a somewhat , drastic statement in the wav of criticism. Without appearing in ahy way to defend Mr. Reatty or his policies, 11 would seem to us that the member ot the House Who made that statement was possibly a little too enthusiastic in his criticism. After all there is nothing to be gained by calling anybody names, f; There can be no. criticism of the Canadian Pacific Railway or its head in competing fairly and squarely with the Canadian National system, Healthy and sound competition may often hurt but there can be no valid obiection to it, -Interference in the policy of the Canadian National by the Canadian Pacific, through the close relation which it is often said exists between certain government heads and officials of the railway company, is, however, not fair and should not be permitted. Mr. Sanderson of South Perth . probably had something like that in mind in making his wionc comment in regard to Mr. tfeatty. SPRING SHOES are arriving daily In Men's,. I have beep, unable yet to1 get a Canadian Radio Commission! program on. either of them. It may' be that my sets are not up-to-date: but I am trying to get the best I there is. I understand that the' minister intends to improve the station In Vancouver and I am very glad to hear that. "In my room here I have dozens of letters complaining about this radio situation In British Colum bia and especially In the outlying parts. If we are to keep on paying a licence fee to the commission we are. at least entitled to have Cana dian programs. If that is impossible I think we should not have to pay the licence fee. I hope that when the bill is brought before the House consideration will bs given to these complaint, and I appeal especially for the part, of the country which I represent and know something about." Minister's Reply Hon. Alfred Duranleau, minister of marine, replied as follows: "As to the lack of coverage, I have already stated that the radio commission has a program of con- j ;tniction Including a certain num-' ber of powerful station, one In' Vancouver, one In the eastern pro-' vlnces. and at other places where I the service is found to be poor, and it is hoped this will give entire satisfaction. But It Involves expen-, diture and I can state to the committee that the amount collected I for radio licence fees was not suf ficient to allow the commission to build powerful stations." ft Delicious Energizing Heath-lniurlng inall Tin lit, Urn Tin 60c.
