EXCELLENT EFFORT The" thanks of the community is due to the Junior Chamber of Commerce whose efforts resulted in the carrying out of a very successful carnival. Without the young men this year there would probaby have been no celebration. They took up the work when there seemed no hope of anything being done. The Junior Chamber could have done little without the support Kot the whole community. Hanpilv their enthusiasm inspired confidence and the result was well worth the effort. We gladly jjoin with all others in extending to them the thanks and appreciation of the citizens generally and express the hope that they will continue to function in the interests ofthe city. Above is a cartoon sent out by the League for National Government in which a plea Is.made that the members of Parliament when elected .will get together and form a government which would be Independent of party. In the cartoon Canada is represented as a sick man after being dosed by the Bennett medicine. Mackenzie King is offering pills, and each of the other party leaders has a cure to offer. We wonder if it occurred to the cartoonist to suggest what would happen to the patient if all the medicjnes were mixed together and given to the patient. It seems to a good many people that, as the Bennett medicine seems to have failed, the patient should be given the Mackenzie King Pills to clear the system and start the proper functioning of the different or gans of the body politic. Will Rogers is fond of saying: "Well, afM know is what I see in the paper". It is substantially true , that all most of us know about current topics is what we see in the daily newspaper. An unusual bond of friendship unites the reader and his newspaper, a relationship cemented by that wonderful thing we know as "News". What is it? News might be called the theme song of life. It Is the sound of civilization's machinery in motion. It is the speed gauge of progress. It is the background of all thinking, all planning and all knowledge of current human affairs. Because of this quality, when white paper leaves the printing presses carrying "the news", it has become an rtcuve luree in us ciry, us country and the world In such an atmosphere of motion and vitality the Day Newspaper places within the hands of maker and seller the power of contact with this new-reading public a power that is limited only by the advertiser's own ability to use it intelligently.
