THE POLITICAL CORNER metal MR, PANTER, SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM As reported in the Stewart newspaper of September 21st Mr. Panter at his meeting there said, "There are only two choices, capitalism or socialism," and when Mr. Ernest Winch, C. C. F. M. L. A. for Burnaby who was on the platform with Panter and who was speaking on his behalf was asked the difference between Communism and Socialism, he replied that so far as he was concerned there was absolutely no difference. So now you have It without any camouflage. The C. C. F. candidates are socialists or communists, Just as you may care to describe them. They seek the destruction of the capitalist system. They wish to destroy private capital and private enterprise. We have been seeking for many years to secure outside capital to develop the mines and the other natural resources of British Columbia. Where would this province be today were it not for the American capital invested in the Premier and other mines; in the pulp and paper mjlls of Ocean Falls and Powell River, and In the development of our other resources? We thought we were the luckiest people in the world when American capitalists promised to Invest $5,000,000 In a pulp mill and allied projects here. The C. C. F. candidate, Mr. Panter, takes this position, "We want none of your private capital. We do not believe in your private enterprise, and If you do go ahead with it, we will take it from you." 1 A fat chance this northern country would have for being developed If we were to endorse such a policy and such a candidate. Without the introduction of private capital we might Just as well pack up and get out. Liberal Campaign Committee.
