HOOP PLAY Moose Score Last Minute Victory Over Grotto by Martin Of Single Point , All Games Close Junior trior Moose Moose Defeat Defeat Scouts Scouts in in Best Best Game Lads Have Played This Year A near capacity house last night watched four league basketball games which were loaded with thrnls and what it takes to make hoop games exciting. The Moose Lodge cagers streng thened their position in the senior circuit by winning over the Grotto 30 to 29. The game was close from start to finish with the winners un decided until the last five seconds.' The Moose started the scoring hv the first minute of the game but the Grotto snared one a few min-' utes latex and, from then on until i ' the end of the first half, the lead kept see-sawing until the interval' wnen the Lodge Men had a one-point lead. 16-15. The Tobacconists opened the scoring in the second half of the game to take the lead and held it until that fateful five seconds be fore the final whistle in which Wlngham sank the winning basket for the Moose. No players were bounced on personals, "Badman" Stalker played the whole game. Lawrence Pierce and Stiles were the big guns for their squad while Herbie Morgan was doing the snapshooting for the Cigar Store gang. Intermediate League The Scythians had a close win over the Canadian Legion 24 to 22 in the usual Intermediate League thriller, i The Scythians had things their own way In the first half to out- score the Vets 15 ta 9 with Bevnon doing the heavy damage for the Scythians. The Legion came back in the se cond half and outscored their op- oonents but did not ppt thr m. O v - quired amount to win. The game jnded 24 to 22. It was a game featured, with wild passes and poor ihqpting. Ladies' League High School lost to the Grottettes 1C to 8 in a close Ladies' League game. Grottettes speared 10 points In the first half but none in the second while the Co-Eds got six in the first half and two in the second. Junior League The Junior Moose won over the Boy Scouts 18 to 16. An overtime period had to be played to decide the winners as the count was all square, 14-14, at full time. The first half was nothing but a game of wild shots and passes with the score being 4 to 3 in favor of the Scouts. It was in the second half that these Juniors put on a battle in which Lear got one of the flukiest shots of the season and "Little" Elmer Clausen tied up the game Just before full time. In the overtime period both sides got a basket. Then Cromp cinched it for the Moose with a minute to go.
