St. Patrick smiled yesterday and as a result the sun shone and Prince Rupert celebrated March 17 out of doors. And of course all Irishmen celebrate the day in some way. It does not take much Irish blood to make an Irishman. In Canada there is a great mixing of races and religions and peonies and nearlv everv family has a little Irish blood in it, even if it comes by way of Scotland. Most Canadians are proud of their ancestry whether it be English, Irish, Scottish, Scandinavian, Italian, Jugo-Slavian or what not. But probably the Irishman is the keenest on keeping alive the old country memories or traditions. Yes Today we are publishing an advertisement in our classi-fieid columns from a man who wishes gardening or other odd jobs. Doubtless he will get a good response. There ought to be dozens of neonle who want heln in their par. dens just now or who want ditching or draining, wall uuuuwg, or minor repair worn uone. a num.oer oi meni could be kept busy if each person would make a point of employing some other person a few days this spring. And, what is more" important, the city would look so very much better as a result. "Give some man a job," is a pretty good slogan jusi now. BUILDING IS KEY TO SITUATION The key to the recovery situation is building. As long as there is no buildimr in Canada nearlv a third of Hip n.mif. lation is out of employment. Let building once begin on a iiutinai uaaio uuu uie uuuuiiij; traues employees will ne busy and an impetus will be given to the trades which are dependent on the building trades for much of their activity. For five years there has been little buildinir and thn result is that when it does commence it will have to make up lor the time lost during the depression. There will be somewhat of a building boom, similar to that which is ink ing place in England. But buildinc will not bemn until people have confidence and just now nobody has any con- iiuencf m anyming or anynony. The tobacconists won 4G to 43 over Moose in a thrilling game. The game had in it everything that makes a first class ball match close scoring, speed, spills, scowling at each other. Al though no wars broke out many elbow jabs and hips were used. The game was played throughout at top speed with the Moose getting the od dbasket lead but the Grotto always Just catching up. The climax was the last three minutes. Wing-ham and Vance scored to give what was believed to be certain victory for the Moose but the Grotto mentor put McPhee back into the game and the result was six points in seemingly the same number of seconds from that stringy gentleman. also giving the Grotto a three-point lead and a point leid in Vie series. In the last minute Vingham scored another to put Moose ahead. Then to cap off a very exciting night Johnny Morrison broke away with a short dribble and lumD shot to give the Grotto the necessary three point win to cop the series by the odd point. Ketchikan Wins Again Ketchikan ' High School again played a neat game to win over the local Intermediates 38-33. The second period Coach Johnson put in Arney and Armstrong and the game was nip and tuck until the last two or there minutes when the visitors forged ahead to win a 38-33 victory. The Ketchlkanites were about as smooth a working team as have played her?. The clash was enlivened greatly by an organized cheering section of High(8chool girls with Peggy Steen, tebol as cheer leaders. It was a novelty and took well with the fans. The match of Canadian Legion vs. Warriors was just another game with the Legion 41-24 victors. Naylor was the Warriors' best while McPhee and Armstrong stood out lor the Legion. McPhee is without doubt, the best prospect for the senior league next year. The Ketchikan boys certainly j left a good impression by their snappy floor work and good sports-, manship, j Coach Schoel of Ketchikan de serves a big hand on his accomplishment. It is goad-to. meet one man in Uie north who knows his game. Maybe Rupert wi'l take a lesson and change their style of game and try basketball instead of a mild form of English rugby. Who was the Moose player who lost the game when he stepped on the referee's toe? It was field day fir Referee Skinner who called no less than 95 fouls in the three games he handled. .'
