Nov. 5: Very satisfactory returns have been received by Thos King and Martin Kane of Smlthers on the shipment of ore recently made to the Trail Smelter from their Hyland Basin property on Babine Mountain about 15 miles from Smlthers. This shipment of seven tons o! ore proved to be very high gradi carrying approximately an ounce of gold and several hundred oun cts of silver to the ton. The fact that this ore paid th: owners handsomely after deduct ing carrying charges of $62.00 per ton .to get it to the smelter, be sides the smelter charges and lother deductions, speaks very 'highly for the grade of ore oa this property. Smlthers District contains a (number of properties where high grade ore can be mined and there Is no doubt that, unless capita! becomes interested In the district i at once- some more properties will become small shippers of high grade ore next year, being worked in a small way by their prospector owners. Staff Sergeant Alex McNeill, who 4 resigned recently as chief of the Prince Rupert district detachment of the provincial police, and Mrs. McNeill will be leaving next week for Vancouver where Mrs. McNeill, whose Illness made Sergeant McNeill's resignation and departure necessary, will receive medical treatment. As a matter of fact, the end of the trail Is about a quarter of a mile short of the Prince Rupert Ski Club's cabin. By a little extension more scenic points could be easily reach ed. This extension might be carried out, it is suggested, by community enterprise now that the city and government have done considerable in the matter. It was also found out on Sunday that, as a result of the recent gale, some trees had been blown over the government portion of the trail and there is also a slight wash-out.
